Side Ancient Theatre
The large Roman theatre at the heart of ancient Side, surrounded by the modern old town.
Side’s theatre, built in the 2nd century AD, is one of the largest in the region and is unusual for being built on arches over flat ground rather than into a hillside. From the upper rows there are views across the ruins and the sea.
Nearby are the monumental gate, the colonnaded street, the agora and the Side Museum, housed in Roman baths. The modern village of Side has grown among the ruins, so heritage, shopping and harbour restaurants sit side by side.
- →Coaches stop at the entrance car park; a small tractor-train shuttles visitors into the old town in season.
- →Combine with the Temple of Apollo at the end of the peninsula.
