Perge
An ancient Pamphylian city with Hellenistic towers, a colonnaded street, a theatre and one of the best-preserved stadiums of the Roman world.
Perge was one of the leading cities of Pamphylia. Visitors enter through the Roman gate and the round Hellenistic towers, then walk along a long colonnaded street with a water channel running down its centre, past baths, an agora and a nymphaeum.
The large stadium and the theatre stand outside the walls. Many of the statues found here are displayed in the Antalya Museum, which makes the two an excellent pairing. St Paul is recorded as preaching in Perge on his first journey.
