Hadrian’s Gate
A triple-arched marble gate built in AD 130 for the visit of Emperor Hadrian, the main entrance to Kaleiçi.
Hadrian’s Gate (Üçkapılar) was erected in honour of the Roman emperor’s visit to Attaleia in AD 130. Its three arches, Corinthian columns and decorated ceilings survived largely because the gate was walled into the city defences for centuries.
Today it stands on Atatürk Boulevard at the edge of Kaleiçi, and walkways let visitors see the original stone paving with grooves worn by Roman carts. It is the natural starting point for a walking tour of the old town.
- →A good group photo stop; visits take 10–15 minutes.
- →Use it as the meeting point for walking tours — it is easy for guests to find on their own.
