Myra Rock Tombs & Theatre
Rock-cut Lycian tombs carved into the cliff above a large Roman theatre in Demre.
Myra was one of the leading cities of the Lycian League. Its most striking feature is the cliff face covered with house-shaped rock tombs, some decorated with reliefs, rising directly above a well-preserved Roman theatre with carved masks.
A second group of tombs lies at the river necropolis nearby. The site is a short drive from the church of St Nicholas and from Andriake, the ancient port of Myra.
- →Very hot in summer and exposed — schedule early, before the boat trip.
- →A 45-minute visit is enough for most groups.
