Olympos & Çıralı (Chimaera)
Lycian ruins in a forested valley by the beach, next to Çıralı and the eternal flames of the Chimaera.
The ancient city of Olympos lies in a river valley that opens onto a long pebble beach. Tombs, a Byzantine-era church, a bathhouse and city walls are scattered through the trees, which gives the site a romantic, half-wild atmosphere.
Next door, the village of Çıralı is a protected nesting beach for loggerhead turtles, and above it the Chimaera (Yanartaş) is a hillside where natural gas has burned from the rocks since antiquity — an atmospheric evening walk.
- →The Chimaera walk is about 20–30 minutes uphill on a stone path; bring torches for evening visits.
- →Çıralı beach has restrictions during the turtle nesting season — follow local signage.
