Kaleiçi (Old Town)

The walled old town above Antalya’s Roman harbour — lanes of restored Ottoman houses, boutique hotels and restaurants.

Kaleiçi (“inside the castle”) is the historic heart of Antalya, enclosed by walls that were built and rebuilt by Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks and Ottomans. Narrow lanes run downhill past timber-framed Ottoman mansions, small mosques and courtyard cafés to the old harbour, now a marina for excursion boats.

Most of the old town is pedestrian, so it is best explored on foot with a guide who can link Hadrian’s Gate, the Yivli Minaret, the clock tower and the Hıdırlık Tower in a single loop. In the evening the area becomes the city’s main dining and nightlife district.

Operator tips
  • →Coaches cannot enter the lanes — plan drop-off at the Hadrian’s Gate or clock tower side and pick-up from the harbour car park.
  • →The descent to the harbour is steep and cobbled; advise comfortable shoes and allow extra time for older guests.
  • →Combine with an Antalya boat trip from the old harbour for a relaxed half-day.
