Giresun Island
The only island on Türkiye’s eastern Black Sea coast, reached by boat.
Giresun Island lies around 1.2 km off the city coast and covers only about 4 hectares, yet carries a long history and many legends. Its ancient name was Aretias, and it is linked in legend with the Amazons.
Archaeological work has found remains of an open-air temple from the classical–Hellenistic period. Boats run in season from the Giresun harbour.
- →Boats operate in summer and depend on sea conditions.
- →Little shade on the island; bring water and sun protection.
