Cleopatra Island (Sedir Island)
Island in Gökova bay famous for its fine golden sand and the ruins of Kedreai.
Cleopatra Island (Sedir Island) is reached by a short boat ride from the Çamlı and Taşbükü piers, about 40 minutes by road from Marmaris. Legend says the sand on its beach was brought from Egypt for Cleopatra; its fine oolitic sand is now strictly protected.
The island also carries the remains of the ancient city of Kedreai — a theatre, walls and a temple area. Swimming is allowed in designated areas, but guests cannot take sand away or walk on the protected beach in shoes.
- →There is a nature-reserve entrance fee; daily visitor numbers can be controlled in summer.
- →Strict rules: no towels or bags on the sand and no sand taken away — brief guests in advance.
- →Book early in July and August.
